2 History Galileo Galilei discovered Saturn in 1610 in Italy using a telescope. Saturn was named after the Roman god of agriculture. Saturn’s symbol is like a ‘h’ but curly.

4 Solar System Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun.
Saturn is the second gas giant. Saturn is million miles from the Sun. Saturn’s orbital period is 10,747 earth days. Saturn’s rotation period is 0.45 earth days.

5 Moons These are Saturn’s biggest moons.
Saturn has 53 moons and 9 unofficial moons. Some of Saturn’s moons are Titan,Atlas,Calypso,Dione,Encela-dus,Phobe,Hyperion,Iapetus,Janus,Mim-as, and Tethys.

6 Planet appearance Saturn is a yellowish color, has some rings, has a small rocky core, and has a red oval cloud. Saturn is made up of gases.

7 Rings Saturn’s rings. Saturn’s rings are the brightest and the largest in the solar system. Saturn has 7 main rings that are lettered A-G. Saturn’s rings are made of specks and chunks of water, ice, and some dust & rocks.

8 Exploration This one of the many probes that have visited Saturn.
Pioneer 10 is the first probe to study Saturn in 1979. Voyager 1 explored Saturn on November 13, 1980.

9 Interesting Facts This is Saturn with its symbol next to it. Saturn’s wind speed is up to 800 kilometers per hour. Saturn is very dense, it is the only planet that could float in water. Saturn’s coldest is -220 degrees Fahrenheit. Saturn is 9.5 AU (astronaut units) from the Sun.
