KICK OFF NOVEMBER 20, 2013 During the enclosure movement, many farmers lost their jobs. In factories, many workers were hurt or killed because of poor working conditions. Whose responsibility is it to take care of the people?

FACTORIES AND MASS PRODUCTION Mass Production: system of manufacturing large numbers of identical items Interchangeable parts made production and repair more efficient Led to dramatic increase in production, very repetitious jobs for employees

CHANGING IDEOLOGIES 1700s, government shouldn’t interfere with business = laissez-faire Adam Smith -advocate of laissez-faire = capitalism Robert Owen – socialism – society/government owns all property Karl Marx- communism (government owns means of production and controls economic planning)

PARTNER ACTIVITY With your buddy, research your historical figure. Create a poster describing your figure, and outlining the figure’s contributions to history. You can use your smart phone to find out more information! What impact has your figure had on today’s world? You will present your posters in class today.

PRESENTATIONS As the partners present, record notes on each of the historical figures. You will be responsible for all historical figures.
