ROOF MATE Step-By-Step Over CONCRETE ROOFING STEP 1 – Preparation Remove any dirt, dust, gravel, oil, surface chemicals or other contaminants that may interfere with optimum adhesion. Repair or replace any unsound areas in the roof deck, including deterioration, pitted or spalled concrete, excessive moisture content, etc using a high grade polymer cement, such as UNITED COATINGS’ Uni-Crete or Wall-Bond 70 or 90. Fill any pits or holes with a high strength concrete repair product so they are flush with the surrounding substrate. Ensure that the roof deck has positive slope to drain and that the moisture content of the existing substrate, insulation and deck does not exceed 15%. <BACK MAIN MENU NEXT> EXIT

ROOF MATE Step-By-Step Over CONCRETE ROOFING STEP 2 – Cleaning Roof surfaces must be clean, dry, structurally sound and free of excessive ponding water. All Concrete surfaces shall be cleaned using United Cleaning Concentrate (UCC) or comparable biodegradable detergent. Heavy deposits of dirt or contamination may require agitation with a stiff-bristle broom or similar mechanical scrubber. <BACK MAIN MENU NEXT> EXIT

ROOF MATE Step-By-Step Over CONCRETE ROOFING STEP 3 – Priming & Details Concrete that is chalky or “punky” after cleaning shall be primed with one coat of Uniseal at the rate of 250 to 300 sq. ft. per gallon (6.1 to 7.3 m²/l) to seal and solidify the surface. All hairline cracks shall be treated with a strip-coat of ROOF MATE Butter Grade, centered over the crack and extending 1” (2.5 cm). Voids or holes larger than 1/8" (3 mm) in width shall be filled and leveled with ROOF MATE Butter Grade. Reinforce all “moving” cracks and/or seams, vertical/horizontal interfaces, roof termination points, openings, around the base of all vents pipes and other protrusions, and around roof mounted equipment using ROOF MATE Butter Grade, or with ROOF MATE Mesh embedded into ROOF MATE Basecoat or Butter Grade. Apply two heavy coats of ROOF MATE Butter Grade with a brush or roller to a total thickness of 60 to 80 mils (1,524 to 2,032 microns). If using ROOF MATE Mesh, apply ROOF MATE Basecoat or Butter Grade liberally around the area to be reinforced. While the material is still wet, embed a strip of ROOF MATE Mesh, centered over the detail, applying additional material to totally encapsulate the fabric. <BACK MAIN MENU NEXT> EXIT

ROOF MATE Step-By-Step Over CONCRETE ROOFING STEP 4 – Full Fabric Reinforcement Roofs surfaces that exhibit a high degree of spalling and/or cracking should be detailed by embedding ROOF MATE Fabric into ROOF MATE Basecoat or Unibase over the entire surface. Sandwich the fabric between two coats of ROOF MATE Basecoat, each applied at the rate of 1 to 1½ gallons per 100 sq. ft. (.4 to .6 l/m²). If using Unibase, roll out a 4’ to 10’ (1.2 to 2.5 m) length of fabric and either spray apply or pour Unibase evenly over the top side at the rate of approximately 2 gallons per 100 sq. ft. (.8 l/m²). Work the coating evenly throughout the fabric using a broom or roller so that it is totally encapsulated, eliminating any air pockets, wrinkles or gaps, and allowing the fabric to conform to the surface contours. Overlap consecutive passes of ROOF MATE Fabric a minimum of 2” (5 cm) on each side, taking extra care to ensure that all edges are thoroughly saturated, tight and secure. <BACK MAIN MENU NEXT> EXIT

ROOF MATE Step-By-Step Over CONCRETE ROOFING STEP 5 – Coating Application Apply 1 to 4 separate coats of ROOF MATE, using airless spray or roller, at the total rate of 1.6 to 6.2 gallons per 100 sq. ft. (1.3 to 2.5 l/m²), depending on full fabric application, desired warranty and/or specification requirements. Create a self-terminating flashing by extending the topcoat a minimum of 3” (7.5 cm) above all protrusions, parapet walls, etc. <BACK MAIN MENU NEXT> EXIT

ROOF MATE Step-By-Step Over CONCRETE ROOFING STEP 6 – Options Apply walk pads, ceramic roofing granules or Rhino Top as required to demarcate walkways and service areas, and/or provide non-skid characteristics. To enhance dirt release characteristics in problem areas, apply a coat of Acrysheen, which imparts a slick, semi-gloss finish that aids in maintaining a clean surface. *Rhino Top is a tough acrylic coating that is available in both smooth and textured formulations. It is ideally suited for horizontal surfaces that receive regular foot traffic. <BACK MAIN MENU NEXT> EXIT
