What is International Baccalaureate (IB) ? The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. IB schools encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, may also be right.

Homework Homework=Read 20 minutes per night, every night. It may be ANYTHING the student wants to read; however, I prefer it be a novel they read from beginning to end. I do NOT grade this, but ask for parents’ support. In an ideal world, every family member would sit down and read their own book (or together if you would prefer) for twenty minutes a night. All devices would be off or be used only for reading. Reading is life changing!

Assessments Common-These assessments gauge what the students already know. A common assessment may be given at the beginning of a new concept or skill, much like a pre test. The exact same test is administered to ALL students. Formative- These assessments guide the instruction. They are given continuously throughout a unit of study. This method aids the teacher in identifying those students who need further practice, students who need to be enriched and everyone in between. Summative-These assessments are given at the end of the particular concept assessing the learning and summarizing the development of the learners. These may be differentiated based on student needs.

Grading Policy Home Access Center (HAC) allows you to view your child’s grades online. Please make sure you are able to do this!! If you have questions, contact the office. Grades recorded will either be Minor Summative (30%) or Major Summative (70%). There will be fewer overall grades collected than you may be used to. We focus on formative assessments to monitor progress an ensure student achievement.
