4 © Cambridge University Press 2012 Three phases of the employment cycle There are three phases of the employment cycle: establishment, maintenance and termination.

5 © Cambridge University Press 2012 Establishment phase The establishment phase involves establishing the employment relationship. It covers areas such as human resource planning, job analysis, recruitment and selection, employment arrangements and remuneration.

6 © Cambridge University Press 2012 Maintenance phase The maintenance phase involves induction, training and development, recognition and rewards, and performance management.

7 © Cambridge University Press 2012 Termination phase The termination phase covers the various forms of termination (voluntary and involuntary), entitlements, outplacement and transition.

The following key skills are the focus of this task: accurately use relevant management terms; analyse business literature, information and data; evaluate key aspects of human resource management theory; apply human resource management knowledge and concepts to practical and/or simulated situations; evaluate different practices and processes for managing human resources.

10 © Cambridge University Press 2012 SAC Revision You need to know: -What role and function do HR managers play within large-scale organisations. -What are the common expectations (e.g. Safe work place and good working conditions) of employees of an LSO and what do HR managers need to do in order to ensure it happens (e.g. create policies that reflect employee expectations and need to be mindful of common and different employee expectations). -You will need to define some of the terminology from the text. -Be able to define: intrinsic factors, needs theory of motivation and motivation. -Be able to apply one motivational theory model. -Know the characteristic of the model -Know how this model could be applied in a LSO.
