Electives Mission Statement: The mission of the Sossaman Middle School Electives Team is to inspire students to realize their full potential by providing the knowledge and skills for future success. Electives provide a comprehensive learning environment to develop essential life skills, complement and support core subjects, and enhance the overall learning experience.

PE Philosophy: We will introduce students to health concepts, as well as fitness activity options that vary in intensity and competitive levels. In physical education, our intention is to establish an understanding of the importance of continued fitness for a healthy lifestyle.

A Typical Unit… Day 1: Notes in interactive notebooks Days 2-4: Skills related to the sport Day 5: Mini Games Days 6+: Tournament Quiz Health Lesson - OR - Day 1/3/5: Fitness Lesson Days 2/4: Recovery Day Activity

Grading All assignments/dressing out/performance will receive a point value. Letter grades are based on a percentage of total points possible. A = 90%-100% B = 80%-89% C = 70%-79% D = 60%-69% F = 59% or below Daily points are earned for dressing out and as a performance assessment. Interactive Notebook points – range from 5-20 points per entry. Assignments, projects and assessments will be worth points as well.

Class Expectations RESPECT Student must inform the teacher before class begins if they are ill or unable to participate. Be on time. Bring your PE Interactive Notebook to class daily. In order to earn full points, you must be dressed out properly and participate throughout the ENTIRE lesson. NO food, drinks or gum allowed during class (except water). NO cellphones or other electronics allowed. Be mindful of the equipment and those around you.

Clothes & Dressing Out 1. Athletic/tennis shoes ONLY! Laces MUST be tightly tied. 2. PE clothing, including t-shirt and shorts are required for dressing out. 3. NO tank tops are allowed and NO undergarments may be visible at any time. 4. PE clothes must be taken home daily and washed regularly.

Classroom Management Plan 1. If a behavior problem arises, the following consequence plan will be employed: 1 st Offense – Verbal Warning 2 nd Offense – Student/Teacher Conference, Possible removal from class, Parent called 3 rd Offense – Parent Conference 4 th Offense – In school suspension or expulsion 2. If a single behavioral interaction is a serious violation, a student can expect to be immediately referred to Administration and/or removed from class.

TAX CREDIT Please consider making a donation through tax credit to Sossaman Middle School. Up to $200 per individual OR $400 per couple. General fund or a program of your choice… such as PE
