6 Advancing Short and Long Term Strategies: Enforcement Increased patrols focused on targeted enforcement and robbery suppression detail UMPD added three new officers in mid-December Maintained Security Monitor Program staffing levels while increasing the hourly pay rate Ongoing and enhanced collaboration among law enforcement partners MPD is adding seven new officers in the 2nd Precinct

7 Advancing Short and Long Term Strategies: Environment Balancing the University’s traditionally public and open buildings with current security realities by: –Implementing a building access program – pilot program underway on the West Bank campus since February 3, 2014 –Converting all occupied buildings on the Twin Cities campus to electronic card access (work is underway) and control

8 Advancing Short and Long Term Strategies: Environment Addressing highly traveled pathways on and surrounding campus by: –Immediately changed light fixtures (Campus-side of University Avenue between 12th and Oak Streets) –Developed plan to improved lighting in other corridors –Continuing to work with Xcel Energy to fix burned out or other problem lighting fixtures off campus –Adding security cameras (University and City) –Assessed landscaping

15 May 9 Board of Regents review of Operations & Maintenance Addendum Met Council, City, County, and University Defines responsibilities for operations and maintenance issues such as: –Transit/Pedestrian Mall- Retaining Walls –Bike/Emergency Vehicle Lane- Signage –Retaining Walls- Lighting –Fences- Storm Sewers –Landscaping- Snow Removal Commitments re compliance with Vibration and EMI Performance Standards 15

16 Vibration and EMI Met Council required to certify compliance with Vibration and EMI Performance Standards in order to begin revenue service Floating Slab Track and Double Split Power Supply generally effective Limited areas where Met Council unable to meet performance standards –Committing to operational changes: 1) slowing the train at Amundson (vibration) and westbound across the Washington Ave Bridge (EMI) and 2) speed monitoring –Limited relaxation of performance standards for Kolthoff Hall (vibration and EMI) and at Washington and Walnut (EMI) 16

17 Safety Issues Pedestrian Crossings –New signal controls to be installed early May –Continue to work on ADA issues/tripping hazards Bike/Emergency Vehicle lane –Bike boxes – no left turns across tracks –New signage to prevent errant vehicles –Buses to share tracks with trains – cannot use lane for passing Potential 24 hour service announced last week Safety Campaign – Personal safety + Pedestrian/Bike safety 17

18 University Fare Zone Conceptual Agreement for Fall Implementation: Covers 3 Campus LRT Station Stops Unlimited rides – faculty, staff, students $16 per academic year ($8 for summer) Free to users if picked up during first month of the semester 18
