2. Sports Etiquette A sport has written rules.
It also has unwritten rules – an unwritten code of behaviour.
You do not have to do them but they are associated with good sporting behaviour.

3. The Role of Spectators Help their team by cheering them on.
They help fund their team by buying tickets and merchandise.
Without TV spectators, sport would not be on TV and therefore little sponsorship available.

4. Crowd Trouble - Hooliganism
They ruin events by throwing bottles, fighting and smashing up local pubs/clubs.
It is often planned in advance, even across continents.
Heysel Disaster (1985) – Liverpool v Juventus in the European Cup Final in Brussels. Liverpool fans rushed at the opposing fans. A wall collapsed and 41 Italian and Belgium fans were killed. English clubs were banned from European competition for the next 5 years.

Membership schemes
A ban by some clubs on away fans.
Police in different countries share information about problem people.
Increase in police at events.

6. Taylor Report
After the Hillsborough disaster in 1989 all-seater stadiums were made and the perimeter fences taken down. There was now no standing in the terraces.
