Example 1 In Mrs. Hill’s perfect world, all the streets running east – west are numbered and those streets running north – south are lettered. The even numbered streets are one way east and the odd numbered streets are one way west. All the vowel lettered avenues are one way north and the rest are two way. Can a car traveling south on H Street make a legal left turn onto 8 th Street?

Example 2 Mrs. Carrasco is at the bottom of a 40 foot cliff. Each hour she climbs up 10 feet, but then slides back down 5 feet during her 30 minute break. How many hours will it take Mrs. Carrasco to get to the top of the mountain? She always climbs for one hour, then rests for 30 minutes.
