(AP) - A woman has been killed at a Springfield hotel after falling down an elevator shaft. Fairfax County police spokeswoman Mary Ann Jennings says the woman, who worked at the XYC hotel on ABC Road, was on a service elevator about 11:30 a.m. when it got stuck between the fourth and fifth floors. Jennings says the woman called for help and was met by a maintenance man on the fourth floor. As the man struggled to open the elevator doors, Jennings says the woman apparently tried to climb out of the elevator head first. Police believe the victim then somehow lost her balance and tumbled down the elevator shaft. Authorities aren't releasing the woman's identity until the family is notified.
