War Economy The War Industries Board had many factories convert to manufacturing war equipment, rather than regular products – Wages increased, but so did prices for food, etc. – People willingly sacrificed eating certain foods to save them for the soldiers

War Economy Most of the war was paid for through selling “war bonds” – Ex. You buy one now for $100, govt. pays you back $110 later (when it can afford to) The Committee on Public Information (CPI) created propaganda to convince people to help with the war.

American Experiences Immigrants, esp. German- Americans, faced discrimination and suspicion Espionage and Sedition Acts made speaking out against the govt. against the law – Targeted socialists and labor leaders

American Experiences African-Americans continued the Great Migration into northern cities looking for industrial jobs
