Describe how Poe opens the tale. He also establishes “tone” early on; therefore, explain what his use of tone is in the story. We know that Poe uses first person narrative, so what kind of effect does this give to the reader? Explain answers thoroughly.

Poe is so descriptive in his stories with the help of various literary devices, such as simile and metaphor. Find some examples of simile and metaphor (Think of the eye and the heart.). Explain how these examples are similes and metaphors in the story. (Hint: Remember, simile uses “like” or “as” when comparing two unlike things.) Make sure to highlight your examples in the text.
