Timed Writing: Narrative Essays Includes all parts of a story Should have a purpose Why narrate a story at all? Think of this as your thesis Written from a clear point of view Can use the first person pronoun “I” Use clear and concise language

Examples of Prompts: Write a narrative essay about the most exciting or scary thing that has ever happened to you a friend who has been an important part of your life something you regret doing or not doing

So what steps do we need to take to write our narrative?

Step 1: Brainstorm a story Make a List or Concept Map Plot or storyline Characters Setting

Step 2: Organize Introduction: includes setting and characters Body paragraphs: Usually told in chronological order but can include flashbacks Conclusion: reflect on the meaning of the story

Step 3: Draft Let your writing flow Use your outline to structure your story

Step 4: Revise & Edit Check to make sure you answered all parts of the prompt Check missing words, spelling, and punctuation
