3 Eastern North American Natives
KEY QUESTIONS Who were they? They depended on their environment for food and materials to make clothing, shelter How did they govern themselves? No one owned land, but they respected the right of villages and families to farm certain fields and hunt in certain areas. How did the Colonists impact them? European colonization of the Americas began as early as the 10th century, when Norse sailors explored and settled limited areas on the shores of present-day Greenland and Canada.

Generally, the Native Americans lived in peace and prosper until around the 15th century when Europeans first arrived on the shores of North America.

To raise responsible, faithful children we must teach them to govern themselves. Children who have learned to govern themselves take responsibility for their feelings, and decisions.

KEY QUESTIONS What are the reasons for the founding of the original 13 colonies? The original 13 colonies of America were founded on the eastern coast of what is now the United States between the years of 1607 and 1733. How did the economy impact the livelihood of the 13 original colonies? New England: rocky terrain, cold climate, proximity to Atlantic coast = lifestyle/economy How did the colonies govern themselves? Each of the thirteen colonies had a charter, or written agreement between the colony and the king of England or Parliament.

Once Cape Cod was sighted, they turned south to head for the Hudson River, but encountered. The Pilgrims agreed to govern themselves in the manner set forth in the Mayflower. They resolved the border dispute with New England in 1650.

16 Interesting Facts About the Region
The four New England Colonies of Colonial America included the colonies of New Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay Colony, Rhode Island and Connecticut. Geography: The geography of New England consisted of mountains thick with trees, rivers and poor rocky soil that was difficult to farm and unsuitable for crops. Natural Resources: Fish, whales, forests. New England imported agricultural products from other colonies. Trade / Exports: Fish, whale products, ships, timber products, furs, maple syrup, copper, livestock products, horses, rum, whiskey and beer - refer to Colonial Times. Farming was difficult for crops like wheat because of the poor soil but corn, pumpkins, rye, squash and beans were raised.
