T12.1 - Exchange of young scientists IMS-METU (TR), IO-BAS (BL), MHI (UK) Objectives: Create expert capacity by arranging visits for young scientists to well-developed forecasting centers for extended study and hands-on tutorial. (SC will collect requests from regions who need training and will arrange host institutions) A z o v S e a Marmara Sea Milestones (Mo12): Preparation of the plan for Training of Young Scientists and Approval by the Steering Committee

T12.2 - Organization of summer schools and workshops (IMS-METU) Advance the knowledge and research skills of the young researchers/graduate students/operators, Develop and improve man power capacity in the Europe, Promote contact with end-users, and demonstrate the end- users the use of products from forecasting systems, Stimulate new developments in ocean forecasting 1st workshop will be organized when ECOOP system reached V1. Its Program will be presented to SC. Its content and location will be decided by the SC. Milestones: (Mo12) Preparation of the content of the 1st Workshop/SS (Mo18) Organization of the 1st Workshop/SS

Young Scientist Exchange period Proposed 1st Workshop: 3-4 days (Istanbul !) Regional Systems (achievements with the 1st half of ECOOP) It fits with the objectives of WP12 on Training and Stimulation of new developments in OO. T12.3 - Using Distant-learning Technology Pierre Bahurel (MERCATOR), IMR, IMS-METU, NOVELTIS S12.3.1 – Preparation of Course Material on Operational Oceanography Content: General info on operational oceanography (e.g. Tide, storm surge, river plume, strong currents) Details on regional oceanography and biological oceanography Coastal oceanography and biological oceanography E-learning platform (how, where and who?) 4 partners for different seas and/or different scale level (Decide which partner/which region and subject)

T12.2 - Organization of summer schools and workshops (to improve man power capacity) Questions: How many WSs/SSs (with the funding allocated; 109K for full duration of ECOOP) ? What will be the scope of the WS ? What will be the level of participants (i.e. young scientists)? Will it be organized in the form of formal lectures on the principles of OO and applications/demonstrations ? How many days (one week) ? How many participants (with the funding allocated) ? How many lecturers ? Who will be the lecturers? How do we choose the participants (nomination by institutes or selection via individual applications) ? Proposed period and Location: METU campus, Ankara, August 2008.
