Session Outline WHY WHAT HOW NEXT
3
WHY English EOC scores have stagnated and in some cases declined – especially with writing Over 150 Seniors will need to pass English I and/or II EOC in order to graduate on time We can’t intervene our way out of the Senior problem – we have to start in English I and II…and on down Teachers need more time in guided collaboration to help work on the work of instructional transormation PLCs need a clearer understanding of the work they can be doing together every day to transform learning Resources such as eduphoria!, released tests, rubrics and protocols were not being used to full capacity
4
WHAT All English I teachers spent a full day together All English II teachers spent a full day together Collaboration between ELA Coordinator, Director of Accountability and Curriculum Management Specialist Initial two days with these groups revealed a need to reproduce the experience for other contents and grade levels Use of student data to identify patterns, areas of weakness, priorities Use of instructional data to reflect upon practice and collaborate around next practices that represent a true learning platform in ELA

Exit Ticket Feedback My Learning Know where to look in aware This was very helpful! Getting to look at my real students’ real data and see how I can actually use it in my real classroom. Thank you. I feel much better about looking at OER’s and scoring them Excellent activities to facilitate planning and focusing on desired outcomes I learned how to find (so I can use) data to help look at future success and lesson planning Viewing taught TEKS in forethought Searching plan topics in forethought I was able to familiarize myself with elaborate test scores in aware The trends in forethought were revealing when/how often particular standards were taught. I need to have more student-centered strategies to enhance learning

Exit Ticket Student Impact This will help me to focus lessons on what students need to improve on I can let them know where they are and how to get where they need to be Hearing of district trends definitely helps me “frame” my understanding of where my students are currently Being more clear with students on EOC grades and if they were close to passing or not I understand better what is asked of my students, and I will be able to adjust my writing instruction accordingly Focus more on what students will be doing- not what I will be doing Student centered learning-engagement! I’ve been saying this all along but feel pressured to stay lock step with PLCS and traditional teaching methods. This was encouraging to my creativity.

Exit Ticket Comments It was great to be able to brainstorm with others I absolutely appreciate the clarity provided today All other districts have spoken on teachers needing to do what we did today. This is the first that provided it. It would be beneficial to next grade essays that are current essays done by students with teacher group and talk about why we scored what we did. Retraining our brains Thanks for giving us time to do this!

Continued work with PLCs Other EOC courses Include other data sources Extend to elementary
