3. Standard 1: Professional Knowledge Teacher demonstrates an understanding of the curriculum, subject content, and the developmental needs of students by providing relevant learning experiences. Standard 2: Instructional Planning Teacher plans using the state’s standards, the school’s curriculum, effective strategies, resources, and data to meet the needs of all students. 7. Data Source DefinitionObservations Observations are an important source of performance information. Formal classroom observations focus directly on the teacher performance standards. Informal observations (walk-throughs) are intended to provide more frequent information on a wider variety of contributions made by the teacher. Documentation & Professional Development Logs Includes both required and teacher-selected artifacts that provide evidence of meeting selected performance standards in additon to a record of participation in professional development opportunities. Student/ClientSurveys Surveys provide additional data to the teacher which can influence teacher strategies in several of the standards. Student Growth Objectives (SGOs) Appropriate measures of academic performance are identified to provide information on learning gains. Teachers set objectives for improving student progress based on the results of performance measures. The SMART goals and their attainment constitute an important data source for evaluation. 7
