Vocabulary This Week 1.Do the review sheets for homework or in class. All homework is due at the beginning of class Friday 8/14. Staple the vocabulary review sheet(s) to the words. Turn in the words with your sentences. 2.Vocabulary Quiz Friday 8/14. Vocabulary pop quizzes are common so be ready (you can use your words on pop quizzes).

Daybooks 1.Daybooks are to remain in the classroom. 2.Your work is graded. 3.You will use your notes in your daybook to help you on tests, quizzes, and writings related to the readings. 4.If you would like to decorate your daybook cover, please let Mrs. GP know you are taking the daybook home. You MUST remember to bring it back with you the following day. 5.Daybook supplies are purchased by Mrs. GP. Please respect these supplies by not purposely damaging them. Please do not remove the supplies from the room. Please do not transfer supplies from one box to another. If you need something, please let Mrs. GP know. 6.Before class ends, please be sure you have thrown all scraps of paper away.

Getting Daybook Started Table of Contents 1.Color the unit tab if you want. 2.After cutting on solid lines, glue/tape down on first page. DO NOT CUT THE UNIT TAB OFF! 3.The first page in your table of contents is “Marriage is a Private Affair.” Page number is 1.

“A Marriage is a Private Affair” This is the author of the short story. He said this quote. Born 1930 in Nigeria (died in 2013). This is what Chinua Achebe believed. Keep this is mind as we read his short story. Mr. Achebe is African. Glue or tape down (be careful not to glue or tape down the parts you will write on or under. 2.Now fold on the dotted lines. 3.Read the information on the strip of paper & glue/tape under the top flap. 4.Read the information on the strip of paper & glue/tape under the middle flap. 5.Using the details from the characters and the author, give your answer for the last flap. We have today and tomorrow to work on this. Do your absolute best so your results give an accurate measure of the skills you are weak and strong in.

(HONORS) Inference in “A Marriage is a Private Affair” Go ahead & prepare your handout for your daybook. (color, cut, paste/tape, fold). Be sure to write this entry into your table of contents. Number your page (2). Inference: a prediction, an idea, or a conclusion based on what you already know combined with what you read. Read the quote you are given. Identify the speaker’s name & write the name on the flap labeled “Speaker & Page #.” What is the meaning of the quote? Write your response on the underside of the flap marked “Meaning.” What is something you can infer based on what you already know and what you have read. Your turn: You probably already have an inference. To support your inference, you need evidence. In your daybook, on the same page as your Inference Square, write down your inference. Next, locate a quote which supports your inference. Then, identify the speaker(s) & page number, Finally, what does your inference and the quote mean?
