2 What is Podcasting? Podcasting is a new method of communication allowing anyone to create audio or video files and post them to the Internet for others to download and listen to at any time. These audio files can be downloaded to a personal computer or handheld device such as an iPod or any MP3 player. RSS – Really Simple Syndication: Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is an easy way for Web sites to share headlines and stories from other sites. Web surfers can use sophisticated news readers to surf these headlines using RSS aggregators. http://webdesign.about.com/od/rss/a/what_is_rss.htm

3 What is Podcasting? Cont. Using RSS, people can send and receive podcasts when updated Portable utilizing an MP3 player Although the term derives from combining the terms iPod and broadcasting, the technology can be utilized across Apple and PC platforms. Widely used as a radio or tv format communication tool

4 Story Boarding I believe that one of the really powerful tools for podcasting is story boarding. Students really need to be specific when they are outlining their program, and the critical thinking skills involved here are tremendous. There is also a huge plus in how cross curricular this is. The next slide will break down what is needed in storyboarding, however, a tremendous amount can be added.

5 Story Boarding Step 1: Determine the purpose of your podcast. Decide if you will use video, text still photographs or audio. Step 2: Decide what pieces of the story work best in video, text, still photographs or audio. Consider your audience and what would be more entertaining or informative for them. Step 3: Start the storyboard by addressing the important information first. Include why the audience should care about this podcast. Step 4: Create the storyboard by drawing out on paper or using Microsoft PowerPoint. Each slide in PowerPoint should be a segment of your podcast. Insert pictures to represent video, photographs and audio. Step 5: For each segment, determine how you will transition to the next segment. For example, a photograph fade may into the next segment, or you may interview someone to support your previous statement or video clip. Step 6: After you have created a rough draft of the storyboard, read through it again to see if certain segments should be rearranged, deleted or revised. Tips & Warnings Plan your storyboard with as much detail as possible so you have more options to choose from. Use the storyboard as a starting point. It’s not finite. http://www2.answerbag.com/articles/How-to-Create-a-Storyboard-for-a-Podcast/0e8bebb4-1656-a3be-508c-ce86b0392687
