18. Techniques for Carrying Check to make sure the cord is wrapped around the base of the microscope. Hold the microscope firmly on the neck and below the base. Hug the microscope close to your body. Do not carry other items at the same time you are transporting the microscope.

Techniques for focusing 1.Lower the stage as far from the objectives as possible. 2.Be sure the low objective is pointing down towards the stage. 3.Place the slide on the stage with clips. 4.While watching from the side, raise the stage as high as it goes, making sure it does not hit the objective. 5.Now begin looking through the eyepiece and slowly lower the stage away from the objective using the coarse adjustment knob. 6.Look for a change in view where objects come into focus… this will be require only a small amount of rotation on the knob. 7.Use the fine adjustment knob to make the image clearer. *** When you are ready to switch the objective to the next power, do so while looking from the side. ONLY use the fine adjustment knob on any of the other objectives.
