5 AIMS n raise awareness of students as consumers n Students are able to critically view information that a consumer has access to and are capable of making better choices for a healthier diet.

6 Stage 1 - Documentary n Food Inc. (2008) n What is the situation in Slovenia?

7 Stage 2 - Seeds n Biology n A review of seeds and plant reproduction n Food pyramid n Additives

8 Stage 3 – A balanced diet for a sportsman

9 Stage 4 - Research n Pair work n 1 month (at school, at home) n Topics: milk, yoghurt, bread, red meat, fish and seafood, poultry, eggs, organic products, fruit, vegetables, tinned food, water, soft drinks,etc. n Questions

10 Eggs n Food pyramid. n Different types of eggs you can buy in our supermarkets. n Define the term free-range. n The benefits and dangers of eating eggs. n Go to 2 supermarkets and research what different eggs you can buy. Compare the prices. n Contact a large egg supplier (e.g. Perutnina Ptuj, Jata, Jajca izpod Kamniških planin and research how the chickens are kept and what they are fed. n Is it possible to buy free-range eggs in our supermarkets? n Go to the open market place on Saturday and check how many local farmers sell eggs and what their price is, how the chickens are kept and fed.

14 Stage 7 - Debate n How important is it to know what you buy? n What can we do to raise consumer awareness? n Were you right / wrong when you made the hypothesis that the situation in Slovenia is much better than the one in the USA?

15 Formative assessment n Feedback for each of the students - Consultations - Presentation - Research - Debate

16 Evaluation + n Documentary n Debate n Research n I have changed as a consumer. n I feel I have really done something. - n A lot of work n Frustration when not getting the information needed n Work at home, not only at school
