When was the moon formed? How exactly was the moon formed? Well………… A long time ago, it is believed, that a huge mass struck Earth, flying millions of pieces into space. But, those pieces got caught in earth’s gravitational pull and soon the pieces formed into what is now the moon. Because of that struck, the moon has a tilted axis, which gives us the phases of the moon. Did you know that the moon is 4.5 billion years old?

First Expedition to the Moon The space craft launched on the 16 th of July, the name of the space craft was called Apollo 11, (A.K.A The EAGLE) They landed 4 days later on July 20 th, 1969 On the space craft was Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin. Neil Armstrong was the first man on the Moon. “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” –Neil Armstrong

Phases Phases of the moon are cause by the placement of the moon, the sun, and the position of which earth is in. New moon- Where you cannot see the moon. 1 st Quarter/ Crescent- Beginning of the moon cycle Waxing- When the moon’s shape starts to grow Full Moon- When you see the entire moon. Waning- When the moon gets smaller Second Quarter/Crescent- Almost a new moon Cycle Continues endlessly Full Moon

The Eclipses There are 3 types of Eclipses. Total Eclipse- Blocks the whole sun except for a halo (a corona). Annular Eclipse- When the moon is at a far point in its orbit of Earth. Total Lunar Eclipse- Moon moves in Earth’s shadow.

How the Moon Affects Earth One reason that the moon affects Earth is the tides. How the moon affects the tides is because of the placement of the Sun, Moon, and Earth. It is because of the gravitational pull of all of them which make tides on Earth’s shores.
