Overview of a Credential Program 2 & 3 semester programs 2 Semester Program (full time) - Each semester includes coursework and student teaching. 3 Semester Program - Student teaching in the final semester. Desirable for those who continue working part time until student teaching. SDSU College of Education, Office of Student Services

Prerequisites Common to Basic Credential Programs CSET/CBEST Examinations-take early (begin late in junior year) Certificate of Clearance – apply 6-12 months in advance of program admission (applications at EBA- 259) GPA – 2.67 cumulative (all college coursework) or 2.75 last 60 units Tuberculin clearance to be valid while enrolled in program (Health Services) Dual application – apply to the university for post- graduate study AND apply to department SDSU College of Education, Office of Student Services

9. Timeline cont. ALWAYS continue to check the program website for information regarding application due dates. Work toward completion of prerequisite courses ED 451 and SPED 450. Register to take the CBEST (and CSET if needed) exams (if these were not completed in Jr. year). 16. What is APLE? Incentive Program (administered by the CA Student Aid Commission) to attract and retain outstanding students into California’s teaching profession. SDSU College of Education, Office of Student Services

Participants Must Teach in Either: Designated subject-shortage area: identified annually by the Superintendent of Public Instruction Schools serving a large population of student from low-income families State special schools: schools serving rural areas, low performing schools (bottom 20 percentile of the API), and/or having high percentage of teachers holding emergency permits SDSU College of Education, Office of Student Services

19. APLE $11K - $19K Assumes up to $11,000 in outstanding educational loans in return for four (4) consecutive years of full-time eligible teaching service in a CA K-12 public school. (paid to your lender(s) over the course of 4 years-up to $2K in year 1, $3K in years 2-4) Additional $1K per year for teaching math, science (grades 7-12), or special education in the lowest 60 percentile of the API Another $1K per year for teaching these subjects in the lowest 20 percentile API (max. of $19,000) SDSU College of Education, Office of Student Services
