2 STAR Reading is a computer-adaptive assessment that is designed to give teachers accurate, reliable and valid data quickly so they can make good decisions about strategies you may need to learn so that you can become a better reader or improve the skills you already possess.

3 The STAR Reading assessment is a computer- adaptive test. Computer- adaptive tests continually adjust the difficulty of each student’s test by choosing each test questions based on the student’s previous response. If the student answers a questions correctly, the difficulty of the next item is increased. If a student misses a question, the difficulty level is decreased.

12 You will have 45-60 seconds to answer each question. You will encounter approximately 25 questions, not including the practice questions. The test will be administered three (3) times a year - in the fall, winter and spring.

13 You will receive a scaled score (SS), which is based on the difficulty of the questions and the number of correct answers. Scaled scores are useful for you to compare your performance over time and across grades.
