HEADING PAPERS

WHEN YOU FINISH EARLY  You should ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS have a silent reading book with you in this room. READ IT

ANNOUNCEMENTS  When the intercom in our room is activated for any reason you are to immediately be quiet and listen.

POLITENESS  Is an expectation not a choice in this classroom. Always use appropriate responses like PLEASE and THANK YOU!  The following slide is about banned words. I do not wish to have these terms used in my classroom. I find them highly offensive and improper in the classroom setting. You will be given one warning and then a demerit. We need to be tolerant of others.

BANNED WORDS  There are four words that are banned from this room. They do not belong as adjectives (words that describe nouns) in a negative way. Do your best to watch your mouth. Jewish (or any variation): the use is offensive to people who worship in the Jewish faith and it is unnecessary in this classroom setting to describe something as “Jewish” Gay: this is offensive to people who are gay. In this classroom if you don’t have something nice to say don’t say it at all. Stupid: please do not over use the term and do not direct it at your fellow classmates, the teacher, or assignments Retarded: you should never use this word to describe another person, place, thing or idea. Lots of people suffer from mental handicaps and you are being rude and degrading when you use this to describe something frivolous

DISMISSAL  The bell does not dismiss you, that is my job. Sit quietly with your materials gathered and you will be dismissed when I feel you are ready.

SAFETY DRILLS Procedures for drills and emergencies

LOCKDOWN  During lockdown the windows, blinds, and door must be closed.  You should sit quietly in the back corner of the classroom and remain silent and as hidden as possible.  Follow all directions given to you by building personnel or law enforcement.

SUDDEN ILLNESS  Do not waste time asking! If you are going to be sick get to the nearest trash can or restroom as quickly as possible.  I will send someone to check on you and walk you to the nurse/office.
