Entrance to Major Testing All Instructional I teacher certification programs must successfully complete the Pre-service Academic Performance Assessment (PAPA) tests: Childhood and Early Adolescent Education Secondary Education Special Education World Language Agriculture Art Education Kinesiology Music

PAPA Tests Three modules Reading, Mathematics, and Writing You may take one or all three modules at one test appointment Passed by achieving a qualifying score of 220 or higher per module, or Composite Score Option

Necessary Clearances Valid for one calendar year from date of issue, unless otherwise specified. All required clearances Must be valid at the beginning of each field experience Professional Liability must be current throughout the entire experience

Clearances The Act 151 (Child Abuse Clearance) *may take up to 10 wks PA Criminal Background Check (Act 34) Federal Criminal History (FBI) Arrest/ Conviction Report and Certification Form (Act 24) Tuberculosis Test State Health Appraisal Professional Liability Insurance Mandated Reporter Training Two Letters of Reference

Field Experience Education work experience - must be met by end of third semester (ETM) Forms available online SECED- 40 hrs SPLED and WL ED- 80 hrs CEAED- None C I 295 - Early field experience Intended to introduce you to classroom observation, educational issues, and teaching as a career Typically during semesters 3 or 4 C I 495C - Middle level field experience For pre-student teachers. Practicum situation for demonstration of selected instructional strategies and management skills acquired in professional training C I 495 occurs typically during semesters 6 or 7 Separate online application submitted one year in advance

Student Teaching Culminating field experience Typically during semesters 7 or 8 Full-time teaching responsibilities for fifteen weeks Under the guidance of a certified teacher and a university supervisor Provided at a variety of locations depending on the specific certification program Students have the responsibility for obtaining transportation, housing, professional attire, health and insurance verifications, and all required clearances

Keep in Mind LOVE to learn – and RE-learn Perform very well academically Organize responsibilities Take initiative to seek out opportunities Put yourselves into another’s place to learn how they learn Don’t take risks that would jeopardize your professional future Keep your record clean – underage drinking/DUI, etc. Be prudent on social networking
