Definition A double replacement reaction involve an exchange of positive ions between two compounds. It usually takes place between two ionic compounds in an aqueous solution In the solution when two ionic compounds are mixed together you will get either an aqueous homogeneous or a chemical reaction will occur.

Example of Double Replacement

Complete the balanced equation 1. AgNO3+KCl -> A.AgCl3+KNO3AgCl3+KNO3 B.2AgCl+KNO42AgCl+KNO4 C.AgCl+K3NO3AgCl+K3NO3 D. AgCl+KNO3AgCl+KNO3

Complete The equation 1.BaCl 2 (aq)+K2CO3(aq)  A.BaCo3+2KClBaCo3+2KCl B.BaCl4+2KClBaCl4+2KCl C.BaCo6+2KClBaCo6+2KCl D.BaCO3+KClBaCO3+KCl

Facts A double replacement reaction takes place when two compounds interchange elements and ions to form two new compounds. In order for a double replacement reaction to take place, both of the reactants must be soluble in water.

More Facts Usually a double replacement reaction will take place when two solutions are mixed together. Double-displacement reactions describe reactions in which two or more new products are formed from two molecular reactants. In double-displacement reactions, reactants exchange ions or elements to form products. At least one of the products will either separate from the reaction mixture (usually as a gas or solid) or form a stable covalent compound.

HOMEWORK! Find the products and balance the equation FeS(s)+HCL(aq)-> Ag2SO4(aq)+AlCl3(aq)->
