3 Geography Originally part of the Ottoman Empire Mandate of Palestine - British control - Both Jews and Arabs Equal After WWII Britain can no longer control the area The Jewish population (the minority) declares independence Middle East

4 How did the Palestinians Lose Their Land? (Mandate of Palestine) Ottoman Indentured Servitude The British do not recognize the Palestinian land claims Interested Zionists buy the land from the British while Palestinians are still living on the land

5 Israel’s Control Full governmental control Mandatory Military Service for men and women Non-Jewish people are second class Reasoning for this is their persecution and it is the land God has promised them Wars Six Days War Yom-Kippur War Armed by America Against Egypt and Arab Nations trying to take Israel back Israel only non Arab nation in Middle East

6 Terrorism Irgun- Israeli Terrorist Group fighting British and Arab control Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO)- Major terrorist group to liberate Palestine (Jordan) HAMAS- Internal Palestinian Terrorists

7 Palestinian Isolation Sites West Bank Gaza Strip Golan Heights These areas are Occupation Districts controlled by Israel but where the Palestinians are forced to live. Shanty Towns
