2 Team 6A Nuts and Bolts  Beth Snyder- Science  Shannon Olson- Principles of Algebra  Bill Robinson- World History  Meredy Smith- Language Arts  We work together to provide the best learning environment for our kids.  Weekly discussions about student successes and needs  Assignment, test coordination as best we can  Create a team “family” to include all students

3 Communication to Parents  eBlasts- team newsletters will be sent home with important information or upcoming events.  Text alerts- subscribe to 6A text messages. Quick reminders of due dates or school/team events  Team Website- homework agenda for each class  Student Agenda- students are responsible for filling out and knowing what is assigned and due  Parent Vue and Student Vue- check grades at any time

4 Discipline Policy  First step  Tell student to stop  Describe expected behavior  Second Step  Refocus student to another teacher Refocus examples: -minor disruptions -low level disrespect towards teachers, students, property  Second step continued  Lunch DT examples: - Gum use (after warning) - 3rd tardy (parent contacted) - Multiple personal electronics policy offenses  THIRD STEP—Time Out to ISI examples: -major disruption -higher level disrespect toward teachers, students, property  ADMINISTRATOR MANAGED  (conduct referral from teacher)  1. Repetitive and/or extreme teacher managed behavior  violations  2. Bullying (aggressive language, threats, harassment  of students or teachers)  3. Fighting or aggressive physical contact  4. Sexual harassment  5. Major dishonesty (cheating, plagiarism, forgery, theft)

5 Positive Incentives  Team Days- designed to be fun for students that are academically and behaviorally in good standing. Students that need extra time or assistance will use these days to get caught up.  P.R.I.D.E.- campus wide program to “catch” kids doing the right thing. PRIDE tickets are put into a drawing each week.  FOL’s (front of the line)  SOTW- to recognize the efforts of students in the classroom  SOTM- again to recognize, but this is above and beyond

6 Successful Students!  iClass, Learning Lab and Homework Club are all provided in an effort to help students experience the highest success possible and to fulfill their learning potential!

7 Homework Club  Purpose: Students who did not complete work in class or for homework are required to attend Homework Club to finish assignments.  Student receives a pass to go to Homework Club at lunch.  Students may still purchase a lunch before going to Homework Club, or bring a lunch from home.  Students have lunch at Homework Club while finishing their work.  Attendance is required is assigned.

8 Learning Lab  Offered to all students.  Learning Lab provides extra help for school assignments, quiet place to study, opportunity to get caught up on work missed due to absence, etc.  Attendance is voluntary.

9 iClass – First part of First Quarter  During the First Quarter, 6 th Grade iClass will provide all students with foundations they need for success in middle school.  Topics will include: study skills, social skills, team- building, leadership, how to get and stay organized, extracurricular opportunities for middle school students, and more!

10 2 nd Quarter and Onward…  Students who are identified as being in need of intervention services in reading, writing and math will meet with teachers who will provide these services.  Students are identified for intervention by analyzing data from a variety of assessments.  Assessment is done on an ongoing basis throughout the year.  Students may move into or out of intervention groups fluidly, as their academic needs change.

11 Exploration  Students not in intervention groups will be scheduled into classes that provide exploration in a variety of topics!  These could include connections to science, the arts, technology, community service and health/fitness.

12 Extra Help!  Learning Lab  May be before or after school - TBD  Computers, a printer and help is available  Homework Club  During lunch  Will be assigned at teacher discretion  Complete homework or get ahead
