This project is the study of light absorption. In this project I will prove that darker colors absorb more light.

I wonder if the darker colors will have worse results than the light colors, maybe yellow will do better than blue I don‘t know I guess we‘ll have to wait and see.

I predict that the darker colors will do better than the lighter colors. The colors I am using are blue, red, yellow, green and orange.

According to the internet black absorbs the most light, but I am not using that color. So the internet can’t tell us the correct answer for these particular colors, but my project can. Did you know that the darkest color can‘t necessarily help when it is cold outside? I wore a white turtle neck and started to burn up. In some parts of the world it is so cold the some people have to were black jackets, it is also so hot in some parts of the world.

Materials: You will need 5 to 6 different colors of food coloring and a 100 watt light bulb, 5 to 6 cups filled with water, one room to your to do the experiment. Steps: First you must put the food coloring into the water, then you must freeze the cups water, after that you have to put the cups, one at a time, in an isolated room in your house. Time each cup for 60 min, then measure how much it melted. Keep track as you do each one. After you have done the experiment you will see which one melted the most. Variables: After doing the experiment I noticed that when I froze the water the color changed. The colors are the variables.

The experiment had to be done in an isolated room as I mentioned before. The experiment had to be done with many different colors.I did the experiment the with the colors show below

COLORS - Green - Red - Yellow - Blue - Orange

LIGHT ABSORPTION TEST

I isolated a room and put each color under a 100 watt light bulb for 60 minutes and measured how much each one melted. Blue For the 60 minutes it went from 5 cm to 4 ½ cm and had 5 mm of liquid Red For the 60 minutes it went from 5cm to 3 ½ and had 1cm o liquid. Yellow For the 60 minutes it went from 5 cm to 4 ½ and had 1cm of liquid. Orange For the 60 minutes it went from 5 cm to 5cm and had 1 cm of liquid. Green For the 60 minutes it went 5 cm to 4 ½ and had 1 cm of liquid.

Analysis of data: Did the experiment test your hypothesis? Yes it did but I was wrong apparently red did the best blue came in second. How do you know? I know because I did the experiment and got the answers and red did better than all the other colors.

No my hypothesis wasn’t correct red did the best of them all. When in my hypothesis I thought that blue would do the best. I would change the project setting to sunlight that way I can see what would change. I wonder if the results would change in sunlight I think they would, but they might not. I wanted to do it in sunlight and I don’t know if the results would be different, but under a light bulb the darkest color did not melt the most.

My experiment comes from the study of absorption, I got the idea from the learning lab. I used the internet and I would like to thank the people who helped me, my mom and dad Mrs. Kristen and all the other people who helped me. The End
