3 STEM education is like learning to ride a bike.

4 Example PBL (Problem/Project Based Learning) You are the manager of marketing for L.L. Beanie. Your boss has given you the job of designing a new product for your company within a given budget. Since your company distributes products worldwide, you must decide in which biome your product will be marketed. You must give a convincing presentation to your boss that details your product and marketing plan.

5 Embedded Skills  biomes  map skills/geography  communication: both oral and written  research skills/reading  technology skills  decimal skills  budgeting

6 Homework  Students will have no more than 1 hour of homework from core classes per night. Included in that hour will be 20 minutes of reading.  Many homework assignments will require internet access. If internet access at home is unavailable please let us know as soon as possible.

7 Homework Help Have a question about homework? Contact your teacher via email found on each teacher's website before 8:30pm that night for help!

8 Progress Reports/Grade Updates  Parent Portal available in 4-5 weeks  Progress reports, report cards, and grades available online  Grades are updated weekly  late/make-up work  corrections

9 How to Contact the Teacher  Email (preferred!)  Student concerns  Parent concerns  Write in the agenda  Call the school

10 Bring Your Own Technology  Students may use electronic devices (i.e. Kindles, iPods/iPads, phones, etc.) for school approved activities.  Please do not communicate with your child via these devices during the school day, instead contact the front office.
