Circus Maximus was a race track 250,000 people Free admission Anyone could attend Women could attend and sit with men Originally built out of wood Rebuilt during Roman Empire

No more kings? Tarquin the Proud Horatius at the Bridge
Didn’t treat people fairly Chased him out of town Overthrown in 510 BCE Romans established the Republic Horatius at the Bridge Romans kicked Tarquin out He got help from the Etruscans (an army) Romans hid in the city- but they left the bridge intact Horatius defended the bridge alone while his friends destroyed the bridge Solidified the idea that Rome was a ‘divine city’ protected by the gods- one man had faced the Etruscan army and lived Also showed the power of the ‘Roman soldier’
