LESSON 1 Format Text Leading Leading – term used to describe vertical space between lines of text Measured from the baseline of one line of text to the baseline of the next line of text. Baseline – invisible line that text sits on! 10 pt. leading 14 pt. leading Chapter 2

Pressing [Enter] creates a new paragraph, which is also called a hard return Use a soft return to move words to a new line without creating a new paragraph (line break) Press [Shift][Enter] to create a soft return Bullets and Numbering Bullets are adornments that can be turned on and off Select text>Choose Bullets and Numbering from Paragraph Panel menu Chapter 2 13

LESSON 3 A style is a group of formatting attributes (font, font size, color, etc.) Time-saving feature Ensures consistency among text Use Character Styles for individual words or characters Use Paragraph Styles to apply style to paragraph Very useful when you want to modify text later Glyphs Type characters not found on the keyboard Ex. register mark, cent sign, copyright Type>Glyphs…this displays the Glyphs panel Click the document window with the Type tool and then double-click the glyph in the Glyphs panel Chapter 2 15

Utility for correcting misspelled words Identifies words that are not in the software dictionary Add your own words to dictionary so that the spell checker does not pick them up each time Autocorrect Automatically corrects misspelled words found in Autocorrect Preferences dialog box When word is typed incorrectly, press [Spacebar] twice to autocorrect Chapter 2 17
