What is HathiTrust? A shared digital repository founded in October 2008 A partnership of over 60 major research libraries Dual focus on preservation and access New research center for computational research using text Very large scale

UC Libraries strategic priorities Preservation: Store as much of UC mass digitized content as possible in the HathiTrust repository. Contribute to a robust preservation environment to ensure safety of UC content. Collection development and management: Position the UC Libraries for collection decisions by via HathiTrust collection development and management activities Access: Provide access to UCs mass digitized collections. Rights: Deposit as much public domain content as possible into HathiTrust. Lawfully open as much of the content as possible to end users

Who is using HathiTrust? 500,000 unique visitors and 3.7M pageviews in last month Visitors over the past month are from cities all over the world Visitors from Austin, TX, New York, NY, College Station, TX, and Madison, WI made up the largest visitor counts Of the California visitors, the largest portion are from Los Angeles (about 13%) with visitors from San Francisco (about 7%) and Berkeley (about 6%) not far behind

Where are people going on the site? home and about pages Full text search, and full- text advanced search copyright help information page Of >3.7M total pageviews last month: – >2.5M were of pages in thepageturner section of the site, where visitors engage directly with digitized print materials – and >600,000 were within the HathiTrust catalog.
