PREJUDICE STEREOTYPE DISCRIMINATION Generalized attitude towards members of a group. Behaviors directed towards people on the basis of their group membership. Generalized belief about members of a group.

SEXISM: A DEFINITION Sexism is: any attitude, action, or institutional structure which subordinates and subjugates a person or group because of gender (sex). The components of sexism are forms of stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination. Where do we see these in our society?

SEXISM: A DIFFERENT ANGLE Sexism is: the subordination of one sex, usually female, based on: the assumed superiority of the other sex. Sexism directed at women has three components: (1)negative attitudes toward women; (2)Stereotypical beliefs that reinforce, complement, or justify the attitudes (3) discrimination-acts that exclude, distance, or keep women separate
