Architecture is the art, science, and PROFESSION of planning, designing, and supervising the construction of new buildings, landscapes, communities, and furnishings within their environments in accordance with the principles of utility, strength, and aesthetics.

Occupations require expertise, training, and skill. Professions also require expertise, training, and skill. However, professions are based in fields of higher learning Why is it important for professions to be based in higher learning? The judgments of professionals can either benefit or endanger the public good.

Society expects a professional to assume certain obligations: Establish and maintain standards for admission and practice Protecting the public good when working for an individual client Respecting public welfare over personal gain
