DO’s say who or what receives the action. (Verb acts directly on this person or object) Question to ask yourself: who/what is receiving the action?? ▪ Ex. I write him a letter.

IOP’s say to whom something is for. (Person or thing affected by the action, but directly acted upon) Question to ask yourself: for whom/what is the object?? ▪ Ex. I write him a letter.

When we use le or les, we can be referring to many people…so we need to specify who we’re talking about… To do this we use a personal “a”

To add emphasis like if you buy something for yourself… Ex. (A mí) me compras unos aretes Ex. (A ti) te compro unos aretes
