Lord of the Flies, chapter 1 LotF In-class Writing #1: Using your annotation of chapter one to help you to identify textual evidence, complete one of the two paragraphs whose topic sentences are given below. (1) In chapter 1 of Lord of the Flies, William Golding shows that on their first day on the island the boys are attracted to both freedom and order. (2) In chapter 1 of Lord of the Flies, we see the process of power being distributed and used in many big and small ways.

Lord of the Flies, chapter 1 Group work and discussion: Part of the exposition in this chapter concerns how and why the boys ended up on the island. Working in groups of ~3, discuss and be ready to report out on: (1) How do you piece together that story, based on the information provided in chapter 1? (2) Why do you think Golding doesn’t spell out this part of the exposition more clearly?
