About Van Gogh Vincent William Van Gogh was a Dutch post impressionist painter whose work,notable for its rough beauty,emotional honesty and bold colour, had a far reaching influence on 20 th century art. After years of painful anxiety and frequent bouts of mental illness,he died at the age of 37 from a gun shot wound,generally self inflicted ( although no gun was found ).His work was then known to only a handful of people and appreciated by fewer still.

His illness Van Gogh had a mental illness since birth.He had a rare form of epilepsy. This illness made it very difficult for him to get along with others. His behaviour made others think he was strange. Van Gogh mostly stayed in a mental hospital, where he did most of his art work.

Why & What Van Gogh was training to be an minister but he was too shy and found it hard to talk in front of people because of his illness, so after a short while, he regretfully gave up his work. That’s when he decided to devote himself to art. He studied in Belgium determined to give happiness by creating it.
