2 Our aim with reading is to try and enable your child to enjoy reading and be able to read texts of their choice. It is really important to not see the reading scheme as a race to get through but a way of developing your child’s reading and understanding. Currently we use the Book Band system, but books can vary considerably. Please feel free to supplement their reading with books from home or the library that they show an interest for.

3 Guided reading. Whole class reading. Free reading. Individual reading. Reading in English in order to complete an activity. Cross curricular reading.

4 Daily 20 minute activity. Carousel which rotates throughout the week. 5 activities include; Guided reading led by class teacher. Free reading. Handwriting. Free writing. Phonics/ Grammar/ Punctuation activity.

5 Your child will be taught a variety of different writing styles and purposes, such as: Lists, captions and labels. Stories. Instructions. Letters. Posters and leaflets. Information texts. Recounts. Poetry.

6 Spoken English. Spelling/ Phonics. Punctuation. Grammar. Comprehension. Handwriting.

7 Abacus scheme. Activities may vary between groups and can be pitched at different levels or have a different level of support. Focus on different theme weekly. Regular assessments to gauge planning for subsequent lessons. Extensions readily available to challenge if required.

11 Taught by Mrs Brealey. Alternates weekly between French and Latin. Taught with the aid of songs and music.

12 Numbers to 20. Greetings. Songs/ carols. Animals. Food. Days of the week. Holidays/ Festivals.

13 Taught using the ‘Minimus’ scheme. A lively introduction to the Latin language and culture of Roman Britain. Children will learn about; Minimus the Mouse. Meeting the family. Food. The verb, ‘to be.’ Work. Greek stories.

14 Taught by Mrs Clinkard. Children will take part in monthly services at Church. This year they will be looking at; Special People. Leaders & Teachers. Belonging. Beliefs.

15 Taught by Mrs Clinkard. This will be a weekly stand alone lesson and also weaved into other areas of the curriculum. Children will sing songs and speak/ chant rhymes. Play tuned and untuned instruments musically. Listen to recorded and live music. Create, select and combine sounds using different dimensions of music.

16 Gymnastics. Cricket. Swimming. Football. Dance. Multi sports. Rounders. Tennis.

17 iCompute planning. 16 computers purchased by FOPS. Updated internet connection. Chiltern Edge partnership.

18 Marking code. Reviewed regularly. Available on website. Levels.

19 As local as possible. If you or somebody you know are able to help in anyway it would be appreciated. Any suggestions/ ideas more than welcome. Visitors will be invited into the school to supplement/ help with particular topics.

20 Reading - Parents to check book bags each night and ensure reading books and updated reading records are brought in daily. Children to read with an adult daily if possible. Times tables – New tables given out on a Friday to be tested the following Thursday. Books need to be in school on Thursdays. Spellings – New spellings given out on a Monday to be tested the following Monday.

21 Children will be expected to have a water bottle in school daily. PE kit to be in school every day and go home on Fridays. All children to have wellies and coats in school during Autumn/ Winter months.

23 If you have any concerns or need to pass on any changes or have any significant issues to discuss please come and see us as soon as possible. Please don’t feel that you have to wait until Parents’ evening. Equally, we will ask you to see us if we feel that there are any issues that we feel need to be discussed.
