4 Todd Britton AVP of Information Technology, University of La Verne Doctoral Candidate in Organizational Leadership and Management University of La Verne Founded 1891 Located in Southern California 30 miles east of Los Angeles Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) 39.4% of all students are Latino/Hispanic Unduplicated headcount of 8,628 (as of last census date) 58% of which are undergraduates Source: University of La Verne, Fact Book

5 Sally Montemayor Lenz Dean, Curriculum and Instruction California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office Adjunct Community College Counselor, Sierra College, Rocklin, CA Doctoral Candidate in Organizational Leadership and Management, University of La Verne The California Community College system is comprised of 112 community colleges – serving 2.4 million students annually. 1960 Master Plan for Higher Education delineates the role of three systems of public higher education in California. 1967 Landmark legislation establishes the Board of Governors and the California Community College Chancellor’s Office – charged with oversight responsibilities for the state’s community colleges and centers.

16 California Connects - Digital Divide California Community College Award Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) program Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) $10.9 million – intensive student and community outreach to train and educate individuals with limited experience and access to technology MESA and general student population - access to computers - narrowing the digital divide gap Challenges in ensuring connectivity – rural communities Community college MESA students as Community Trainers Making digital literary tools available to all CCC students
