5 Health Occupations Students of America Mission Statement The mission of HOSA is to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development of all health science education students. The HOSA mission is especially critical when considering the acute shortage of qualified workers for the health care industry.

6 Health Science in Demand 13 of the Best 30 Careers in 2009 (U. S. News and World Report) 10 of the 20 fastest growing occupations (Bureau of Labor Statistics) Healthcare will generate 3.2 million new jobs 2008- 2018, more than any other industry, largely in response to elderly population. 13 Reference NC Board of Nursing North Carolina Board of Nursing Administrative Rule 21 NCAC 36.00318(i) requires the ratio of teacher to nurse aide students be 1:10 or less while in the clinical area. *(i) Nurse faculty members shall be sufficient in number to implement the curriculum as demanded by the course objectives, the levels of the students, and the nature of the learning environment, and shall be sufficient to provide for teaching, supervision and evaluation. The faculty-student clinical ratio shall be 1:10 or less.
