39. www.uis.unesco.org La RICYT The Ibero-American Network of Science and Technology Indicators (RICYT in Spanish) was created in April 1995 as a collective undertaking intended to stimulate and facilitate the production of indicators for the diagnosis and administration of science and technology in the region. It currently includes public bodies, academic centres and individual experts from nearly all countries in the Americas, Spain and Portugal. Consequently, it can functionally connect individuals and institutions. Formally, RICYT is an international cooperation network, and can be assimilated to the model of skills additionally, as it is clearly an organization whose purpose is to attain a critical mass in a distributed form.

42. www.uis.unesco.org Production and diffusion of information Since 1996 there has been an annual data collection of science and technology indicators of all countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, North America and the Iberian Peninsula. RICYT now produces 46 comparative indicators, based on information produced by 28 Ibero-American and Caribbean countries. For some indicators, series are available that take in 1990 to 2008. RICYT produces bibliometric indicators for main databases of bibliographic data. The results of this data collection make up the RICYT Database and are the basic input for the web page and the annual The State of Science report.

43. www.uis.unesco.org RICYT - UIS data collection In 2005, RICYT and UIS signed an collaboration agreement so the data-collection in LAC Countries is joint. Both organizations develop a single questionnaire, the survey is performed by RICYT and the results are shared. The questionnaire is sent by e-mail in an Excel file and includes an annex with instructions and the main definitions. The information gathered is integrated with the information from other countries and published by RICYT and UIS.
