6  WGU Indiana is online, competency-based and designed to increase access to higher education. For Indiana residents it becomes another public institution.  Established through a special partnership with Western Governors University. Dwarfs 1.2 percent growth rate seen in higher-education student population overall.  More than 4.6-million students enrolled online overall. Up from 3.9 million in previous year.

9  SEATTLE -- The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced the Next Generation Learning Challenges, a collaborative, multi-year initiative to help improve college readiness and completion in the US using eLearning technology.  The program will provide grants to innovators and organizations in order to expand the use of technology tools for students, teachers, and schools.

10  Increase use blended learning models, i.e., combine face-to- face instruction with eLearning activities.  Deepening students’ learning and engagement with interactive applications, e.g., digital games, interactive video, simulations, and social media.  Support access of high-quality open courseware, especially for high- enrollment introductory classes - which may show lower rates of student success.  Help institutions, instructors, and students with learning analytics – tools that monitor student progress in real-time and customize support tools and interventions.
