Using technology, the Regents Online Campus Collaborative strives to provide high quality, affordable, student-centered learning. Accomplished through collaboration among Tennessee Board of Regents’ institutions. WGU Indiana is online, competency-based and designed to increase access to higher education. For Indiana residents it becomes another public institution. Established through a special partnership with Western Governors University. WGU Indiana was developed to serve the needs of Indiana citizens. 17 percent increase in online enrollment, with more than one in four students taking at least one online course in the fall of 2008, according the Sloan Consortium. The growth rate surpassed12-percent increase last year. Dwarfs 1.2 percent growth rate seen in higher-education student population overall. More than 4.6-million students enrolled online overall. Up from 3.9 million in previous year.

SEATTLE -- The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced the Next Generation Learning Challenges, a collaborative, multi-year initiative to help improve college readiness and completion in the US using eLearning technology. The program will provide grants to innovators and organizations in order to expand the use of technology tools for students, teachers, and schools.

Increase use blended learning models, i.e., combine face-to- face instruction with eLearning activities. Deepening students’ learning and engagement with interactive applications, e.g., digital games, interactive video, simulations, and social media. Support access of high-quality open courseware, especially for high- enrollment introductory classes - which may show lower rates of student success. Help institutions, instructors, and students with learning analytics – tools that monitor student progress in real-time and customize support tools and interventions.
