SIGARCH Viability Review Norm Jouppi SIGARCH Chair October 2006

Financials Current fund balance approximately $2M –Up from $1.5M in 2002 –But $932K now required vs. $488K in 2002 –Discretionary$/Member roughly flat $670 in 2002 vs. $738 in 2006 Problem: We used to solely sponsor many conference student travel grants –Industry likes contributing for this instead –New proposal: endow SC fellowships $100K
3
Membership & Volunteer Development Relatively stable membership –>80% retention in 2006 –Current membership of 1428 Decline from 1515 in 2002 –Membership fees flat for many years Plenty of opportunities to serve in conference organization Somewhat stale board (1 new member 2002) –Plan to reinvigorate in next election –Use board as input of funnel instead of output
4
Conferences 50-100% sponsorship –ISCA, ASPLOS, SCXY, ICS, SPAA 10-50% sponsorship –PACT, ANCS, CCGrid, SENSYS, HiPC In cooperation: 5 conferences Moving ASPLOS to annual conference Many overlapping architecture conferences –More than 1 a month on average –Trying to get some to collocate –SIGARCH, SIGMICRO, IEEE TCCA sponsors –Herding cats
