2 Pledges January 2006 Pledges at the International Pledging Conference in Beijing (17-18 January 2006): 34 donors pledged almost US$1.9 billion

3 Commitments end-April 2006 Donor commitments as of 30 April 2006: US$1,089 million (83 percent in cash, 17 percent in kind)

4 Disbursements end-April 2006 Disbursements as of 30 April 2006: US$286 million (80 percent in cash, 20 percent on kind)

5 UN system (FAO, WHO, UNICEF, UNDP, WFP, OCHA) funding status Funds requested by UN System: US$ 301.1 million Funds pledged for UN System: US$163.7 million Funds disbursed to UN System: US$126.37 million

6 Donor Contributions Commitments by the largest donors: United States, US$334.07 million Japan, US$158.95 million European Commission US$178.48 million

7 Top Recipient Countries Top recipient countries of committed support are: Vietnam (US$66 million); Indonesia (US$55 million); Nigeria (US$51 million); Turkey (US$46 million) and Cambodia (US$23 million)

8 Where does the shoe pinch? With the spread of the H5N1 virus into Africa, both country- and regional operations sponsored by OIE, FAO, WHO and African institutions will require significant grant funding to be able to respond promptly to avian influenza outbreaks
