NUSTAR 05 - 2 The ECOS document -The ECOS draft document was shortened from 64 pages to 44 pages. It was agreed that 40 pages is an acceptable size for the final document. -Each of the ECOS members have worked on the document for corrections and suggestions and sent back his/her version to me. Document includes in addition: The KVI contribution The g.s properties of neutron deficient nuclei Nuclear Astrophysics: G. de Angelis at the CARINA workshop meeting, on the second week of June! My suggestion…. It was agreed that once the document is finalised and accepted by NuPECC, it would be put on the NuPECC-ECOS web pages to be accessible to the whole community well before the ECOS town meeting.

NUSTAR 05 - 3 The ECOS town meeting This town meeting is meant to inform our community about the work that has been done in the group and to discuss our recommendations to NuPECC. The suggested date and location for the meeting is the second week of January 2006 in Paris. The organisation of the town meeting should be proposed soon to an advisory committee. Regarding the town meeting, the topics to be discussed are as follows: General talks on each of the physics cases that are in our document Talks on the facilities and their up-grading to higher intensities Talks on the scientific policy of the facilities (present and future research directions) Talks on the subjects identified in our document as being of major importance for R&D (targets, spectrometers, electronics, DAQ and ion sources) Discussion on the future (the ECOS recommendations) The organisation of the town meeting will be the main item of our next meeting, which will be on the 28 of September in Paris!

NUSTAR 05 - 4 The future of ECOS: The idea that ECOS should continue its activity beyond the completion of the document and the town meeting has received general acceptance. Concerning future tasks and goals of ECOS, the following ideas have been discussed: - Coordination of R&D activities on separators, targets, detectors and electronics+DAQ that are needed for the future high intensity beams. - Coordination of the Stable Ion Beam Facility Network (from the point of view of the research activities). This part should be discussed deeper in the following ECOS meeting!
