2 Purpose  FDOT to establish a Statewide Bicycle and Pedestrian Count Program to  Assess bicycle and pedestrian use in Florida in terms of number of people walking and bicycling at a given location on our road network system  Better understand the extent and severity of bicycle and pedestrian crashes  Comply with Map 21’s performance based planning  Measuring Performance of non-motorized system

3 How  Partnership – TranStat, Safety, Traffic Ops, Design, TPP  Literature Review  FHWA Traffic Monitoring Guide - Chapter 4  Recent NCHRP Reports  Partnering with MPO and Local Entities  Engage with pedestrian- bicycle communities  Coordinate with FHWA Count Pilot Assistance Project  Palm Beach County  Metroplan Orlando  Miami-Dade MPO  Create a Bike-Ped Database for internal/external use  Task Work Order

4 Next Steps  Develop a Task Work Oder that provides  Program Goals and Objectives through Stakeholder Engagement  Technology recommendations  Location recommendations  Frequency of count recommendations  Partnering recommendations  Coordination with Safety Data recommendation  Bike-Ped Count Database Recommendation  Recommendations for FDOT for a statewide bike-ped count program  Coordination with MAP21 & FDOT performance measures
