WHAT IS A PRESENTATION?

It's an attempt to communicate information by speaking, and using a visual backup presentation medium to help the audience understand and remember.

Main Ideas Often a presentation shows just main ideas and phrases. Pictures or animation may be used to "spice it up".

Text Boxes A basic unit of information in PowerPoint is the "text box". This is actually a graphic element that can contain plain or formatted text. Often the text box in PowerPoint will have a default format as a bullet list.

Title Page Let's start with the Title Page. It has 2 text boxes. When you're done typing in a text box, how do you finish? You don't hit Enter. This will simply make a new line in the text box. What you do is click outside of the text box.

What is PowerPoint used for? Lots of people use it. –In aerospace we had to make lots of progress reports to management. –Other people will use at conferences when they deliver a paper to an audience of their peers. –I recently learned that lawyers are using it in court to present evidence (better than shuffling through a lot of papers). –It can be used to run informational kiosks in public places.
