2 Graduation Requirements 30 credits, 110 hours/credit 18 compulsory credits: 4 credits English 3 credits Math (at least 1 in Gr. 11 or 12) 2 credits Science 1 credit Canadian Geography - Grade 9 1 credit Canadian History - Grade 10 1 credit French as a second language 1 credit Arts 1 credit Health & Physical Education 1/2 credit Grade 10 Civics 1/2 credit Grade 10 Career Studies

3 Additional Credits Three additional credits - one from each of the following lists: Group 1: Can & World Studies, 5 th English, Social Science & Humanities, French as a second language, Native or international language, Co-op Group 2: Business Studies, 2 nd Art, 2 nd Phys. Ed., Co-op, or French as a second language Group 3: Science - 11 or 12, Technological Education or Co-op, or French as a second language Plus 12 elective credits Plus successful completion of the Grade 10 Literacy Test Plus 40 hours of Community Service

5 Types of Courses in Grades 11 & 12 –Five streams (types) of courses may be offered. –Streams are geared to students’ destinations after high school. –Open courses, which are not specific to destinations are offered. 8 Summer School - July 2013 Reinforcement (repeat) summer school credits are offered for core subjects from grades 9 - 12 You may take reinforcement courses in summer school if your mark is between 35%-49% Limited offerings of full credit courses are offered for grades 10 to 12

The Program dictates additional criteria for admission e.g. letters of reference, interview Know your program's requirements!

25 Marks are not always enough! Some programs may require : profile sheet, essay, letter of intent supplementary application, reference letters, interview, admission testing, portfolio, audition

28 How Do You Decide?? Look at interests, goals, grades, what’s important to you….. Plan your courses backwards, from post secondary prerequisites down to grade 11 -- use the Educational Planning Sheet at the back of the course calendar Know what prerequisites (especially English/Math/Science) are needed to keep the doors open to your destination pathway Stay informed – check often as colleges and universities release details Allow for flexibility -- have a backup plan!
